Disabling Useless Services

Just like in XP, not everything that Vista thinks is useful actually is. So improve a few things like performance, why not turn some of these things off?

1. Click start and select Run. In the run dialogue type in "services.msc" without the quotations.

2. Stop any of the following that you don't find useful and change their startup type. You can do this by right clicking the item and selecting properties.

Computer browser (if not connected to LAN)
Fax (if not using printer and fax)
Windows Error Reporting Service
Secondary logon
Tablet PC Input service
Print spooler (if not using printer and fax)
Windows time
Media center receiver service (This caused some dysfunction on my computer)
Security center
Routing and remote access (if not connected to LAN)
Internet connection sharing (if not connected to LAN)
TCP/IP NetBios helper (unless using a broadband router across a network)
Server (if not sharing resources through LAN)
Offline files
Digital ID Management Service
Distributed Link Tracking Client (if not connected to a LAN)
Group Policy Client (unless you are using the account restrictions within Vista)
IKE and AuthIP IPSec keying modules
Infrared monitor service
Pen Service
PnP-X IP Bus Enumerator Service
Remote Registry
Software Licensing Service
SSDP Discovery Service (unless you use or share scanners/printers via LAN)
UPnP Device Host (unless you use or share scanners/printers via LAN)
WebClient
Windows Image Acquisition (unless you use a scanner, camera or printer)
